Poems for the Kingdom, is volume of
religious poems by Mona La Reux.
Mona is first and foremost a religious
poet and all who read her poems are struck by the depth and knowledge displayed
in them. The visual images she emits are so strong that readers can readily see
what she describes. Mona feels that a religious poet is akin to a prophet and
able to develop a deep insight into people, things and events. Writing since
childhood, she found her ideas in sermons or places visited and so has a large
range of topics.
One thing that distinguishes her poetry
is the use of typology and symbolism. For example, in the poem, the Mercy
Tree, the tree that is destined to be used as the cross has special
significance. She also brings the Old Testament and the New Testament together
to show the fulfilment of the prophecies.
Published in October 2005 with 60
illustrated pages in soft cover. This book of poems, which is photocopy free,
would be good for people involved in education, religious group meetings, study
groups and seminaries.

Owl Time -
Bright Day is a
collection of animal poems by Mona La Reux, beautifully illustrated by Graham
Preston.
One moonlit night, Mona saw some “slinking shrinking foxes” outside
the gate of a farm where she was staying. Not waiting to turn off the engine of
her car, she ran inside, got her notebook and recorded the event. A poet for
many years, with a great love of nature, she was in her element.
The possum was a frequent visitor to Mona’s garden: “Small nightly
visitor, in my plum tree, you’re welcome to share its harvest with me”.
The great almond-raid by cockatoos was observed and described
precisely: “beaks like scissors snipped shells with care”.
Topics of the poems include kookaburras, penguins, emus, kangaroos,
platypus, koalas and echidnas. Mona
La Reux writes with much feeling about the animals of the Australian bush. In Owl Time - Bright Day she
observes first the nocturnal animals and then those that are active in the
daytime.
Mona’s poems are accompanied by superb illustrations by well-known
